Happy Halloween, SSS family!!!

In honor of this festive day, I thought it would be interesting (for myself, atleast) to dig into the history of and reason behind this frightful day!
When I think of Halloween, I like to think of Fall festivals… bobbing for apples, hay rides, Autumn decorations, cool weather, watching the children dress up and entertain their imagination. I don’t, however, enjoy being scared to death … which is inevitable this time of year. People often go out of their way to be the scariest one at the costume party, or bring the most disturbing movie to movie night and watch everyone cringe, scream and jump.. tossing their popcorn about.
There are many ancient traditions and celebrations throughout history, crossing many cultures around the globe. American communities, today, typically enjoy simply dressing up and eating candy. However, the root of this day is much more complex than that.

In my research I found that, traditionally, All Hallows Eve is celebrated on October 31st, because All Saints Day is November 1st. These days served in remembrance of those passed away from this world. It is to honor the deceased and memorialize them. The beginning of this entire festivity, is believed to have started as a Christian holiday! I found that to be rather interesting and wanted to share with you all.
Of course, there are many other origins throughout the many religions and cultures around the world. I could sit here for days and research the details of each one, but who has that kind of time?
Isn’t that amazing, though? That one day can be viewed SO many endless ways.
Whatever your religion, ethnic background, cultural lifestyle, etc.. I hope that you have had a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
I look forward to beginning November! Starting tomorrow, Nov 1st, we will be talking a lot about being thankful and showing gratitude, in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. Stay tuned!
Much love,
Bethany
